National Public Lands Day at Hermosa

A Celebration of Wilderness Trails

Join us at the Hermosa Field Station in the Gila National Forest for a weekend celebrating the people, partnerships, and hard work that have helped restore and maintain trails throughout the forest following the 2022 Black Fire. Located on the edge of the Aldo Leopold Wilderness, Hermosa offers a unique place to come together, give back to our public lands, and enjoy a weekend in the mountains.

The weekend begins Friday evening with a welcome dinner and stories about the incredible trail recovery efforts that have taken place in the area. On Saturday, volunteers will head out onto the trails to install signs at trailheads and along Wilderness boundary lines. After the work is done, we'll gather back at the Field Station for live music, good food, and a celebration of our public lands and the people who care for them.

Camping at the Field Station is provided, and we encourage participants to stay Saturday night and enjoy a quick breakfast together Sunday morning before heading home.

Please note: Hermosa is a remote field station with no cell service. The Field Station is approximately two hours west of Truth or Consequences and requires traveling 16 miles on an unpaved Forest Service road. AWD or 4WD with good clearance is recommended.
